Did you know that Jakarta still has a small natural paradise that we can preserve? This small natural paradise is Muara Angke mangrove forest and wildlife sanctuary, North Jakarta.
Located on the north coast of Jakarta, Muara Angke mangrove forest and wildlife sanctuary holds a lot of wealth that is important for urban communities. Since 2018, the Jakarta Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), together with the Nusantara Nature Conservation Foundation (YKAN) and other stakeholders through the Mangrove Ecosystem Restoration Alliance (MERA) alliance partnership to protect and restore the mangrove ecosystem at Muara Angke mangrove forest and wildlife sanctuary.
One of the activities to support the restoration of mangrove ecosystems is planting mangrove seedlings. On Monday, 13 March 2023, to celebrate its 41st anniversary, Tugu Insurance also helps this conservation effort by planting 100 mangrove seedlings.
With an area of 25.02 hectares, the Muara Angke mangrove forest and wildlife sanctuary is recorded as the smallest wildlife reserve in Indonesia. Even so, Muara Angke Wildlife Reserve is home to 8 valid mangrove species and a habitat for various fauna, such as saltwater crocodiles, lizards, long-tailed monkeys, snakes, and an important area for birds in Java.
We also invite all communities and corporations to participate and contribute regarding environmental sustainability, "said Tugu Insurance's Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Emil Hakim.
The existence of healthy mangroves in coastal areas can increase the resilience of coastal communities to climate change and minimize the impact of natural disasters, such as tsunamis, storms, and sea waves.
Protecting and restoring mangrove ecosystems is an important step that has to do together immediately.
